The "Before" Post

I've finally resolved to maintain a blog. I started one once, only to have it fizzle out after a total of 4 posts. And 2 pictures.

But now it's the PCP (post camera purchase) era. No more excuses.

So what's this blog about? Well, it's about food, since I love food. But since I also love to cook, and I do want to lose weight, I thought that this blog would be an experiment on whether it would be possible to cook and eat my way to a thinner me over the course of one year. I work in a pretty demanding day job, so I'll also be looking into whether it's feasible to come home after a day's work and still cook myself a meal.

And why "Agak-agak, Secukup Rasa"? Well, translated into English (from the Malay language, that is), it roughly works out to mean "Guesstimate, to taste", which sums up the way I cook. I hate measuring ingredients (result: can't bake for nuts), and I have difficulty following instructions, and I get confused if I have to consult a recipe book while cooking (I usually find the onions burning by the time I figure out what to do after browning the onions). That means that the recipes I have here will only give very rough measures (a splash of light soya sauce, a bit of black pepper) and explain the method in somewhat ambiguous terms (continue to brown the onions for as long you dare without burning them). But to make up for that, I'll have photos which show not only the finished product, but in many cases, at some point during the cooking process.

Anyway, I'm open to suggestions, and I'm really looking forward to cooking, eating and losing weight.
